The main task of the project is to evaluate the number of breeding pairs and the breeding success of white stork in Estonia. The condition of the population of white stork as an exemplary indicator species has been surveyed in Estonia since 1939; without interruptions since 1954. Today, the number of white storks in Estonia has risen to about 4000 pairs, but depending on the year, it may fluctuate significantly. Data is collected by means of a questionnaire. As the goal is total count of the whole population, it is necessary to report the sighting of every single nest, indicating its location as precisely as possible. A separate record is kept about single birds who guard a nest. Every nature lover is welcome to join the project.
