There are a number of interesting birds belonging to different systematic groups whose main intensive calling time is during the night hours. The suitable places for carrying out the nocturnal bird counts are all types of bush, meadows, river-banks, reeds, but also gardens and marshy areas where impetuous bird calls are heard in dusk. The advisable length of an observation path is approximately 10 kilometres. One should pick a good weather, and the count should take place between 24 and 3 o’clock (the limit hours are 23 to 6). There are three count periods: May 20-31; June 1-12; June 13-24. The count results are later recorded on a special form.
