The book presents detailed data about all the 322 (+7) bird species registered in Estonia by 01.01.1994. The species accounts are given in the taxonomic order by families, species and races. The complete English and Estonian bird names accompany the scientific ones. The entire ornithofaunistic material has been critically checked by the Estonian Rarities Committee.

The first part of the book provides special information about the history of ornithological activities and bird protection in Estonia, bird habitats, as well as the evolution and composition of the Estonian bird fauna.
